Permanent Lighting in High Desert, Albuquerque
Discreet, guideline-conscious permanent lighting for the earth-toned foothill homes of the High Desert community.
Smart Permanent Lighting for High Desert Homes
High Desert was planned from the start to blend into the foothills: earth-toned stucco, native landscaping, homes stepped into the slope below the Sandias. That design intent is exactly why so many residents want lighting that looks built-in rather than added on.
Our permanent systems fit that philosophy. The track sits tight to the parapet or fascia in a color matched to your stucco or trim, the light is warm white by default, and schedules keep everything modest after dark. When the holidays arrive, you change scenes from your phone instead of climbing onto a flat roof.
Designed for High Desert Rooflines
Most High Desert homes date from the 1990s onward and lean Pueblo Revival and Southwestern contemporary, with flat roofs, parapets, canales and stepped massing. Some villages within the community are gated and have their own sub-association guidelines on top of the master guidelines. These are excellent canvases for parapet lighting because the clean horizontal lines read beautifully at dusk.
High Desert's residential owners association maintains design guidelines that address exterior changes, including lighting. We'll prepare drawings, fixture specs, color temperature and proposed schedules so you can submit your project for architectural review. We don't promise approval, but we design with the guidelines in mind from the first conversation, which makes the process smoother.
Lighting for Life in High Desert
Around the neighborhood
- Elena Gallegos Open Space
- Spain Road
- Academy Road
- Tramway Boulevard
- Pino Trail
Residents here spend their evenings on the trails, on rooftop decks and on back patios looking out over the city. A dusk-on, 10 p.m.-dim schedule gives you a gentle glow when you're outside and keeps the neighborhood's quiet character intact for everyone else.
For the holidays, many High Desert homes favor a warm amber that echoes farolitos lining a parapet, with brief color scenes for Christmas, Halloween or Balloon Fiesta week. Program the whole calendar once and the system takes care of it, including turning off at the hour your household chooses.

High Desert Permanent Lighting FAQs
Does High Desert allow permanent exterior lighting?
High Desert has design guidelines that cover exterior lighting, and some villages have additional rules. Whether a specific design is allowed is up to the architectural review process, so we never promise approval. We help by preparing a detailed submittal with placement, track color, warm-white output and scheduling, designed from the outset to fit the community's intent of blending homes into the foothills.
How do you light a flat-roof Pueblo-style home with parapets?
Parapets call for a different approach than pitched eaves. We mount a low-profile channel just below the parapet cap or along the face of the wall, color-matched to your stucco so it disappears in daylight. We plan around canales and roof drainage so water keeps moving during monsoon storms. Details are on our parapet and flat-roof lighting page.
Can the lights stay warm white most of the year?
Absolutely, and that's how most High Desert homeowners use them. You set a warm-white everyday scene on a dusk schedule, then switch to holiday colors only for the dates you choose. Brightness is adjustable too, so you can keep the glow soft and appropriate for a foothill neighborhood that values its view of the night sky.
Will the components hold up to sun exposure at this elevation?
High Desert sits higher than most of the city, so UV exposure is intense and winter nights get cold. Our components are rated for outdoor use, the track shields wiring from direct sun, and the system is built to handle freeze-thaw cycles and summer hail. It's backed by our local warranty, and our Albuquerque crew is close by if anything ever needs attention.
