Landscape Lighting in Albuquerque, NM
Bring your xeriscape to life after dark with accent lighting for yucca, agave, desert willow, boulders and the paths that connect them.
What Is Permanent Landscape Lighting?
A good Albuquerque xeriscape is full of shape and texture: the spikes of a yucca, the rosette of an agave, the airy branches of a desert willow, a cluster of boulders set into crushed gravel. In daylight those details shine. After sunset, they disappear unless you light them.
Our landscape lighting places low-voltage fixtures where they do the most good. Uplights graze the trunk and canopy of a desert willow, spot fixtures pull an agave out of the shadows, and soft path lights mark the way from driveway to door without turning the yard into a runway. Every fixture is chosen to complement the plants rather than overpower them.
When paired with our roofline or wall lighting, everything runs from the same app. Set the yard to come on at sunset, dim at bedtime and shut off before dawn. Add color for a holiday or keep it warm white year-round. Either way, you finally get to enjoy the landscape you worked so hard on after the sun goes down behind the West Mesa.
Why Albuquerque Homeowners Choose Landscape Lighting
Shows off desert plants
Careful aiming brings out the sculptural shapes of yucca, agave, cholla and ocotillo and the soft canopy of a desert willow or palo verde.
Safer paths and steps
Gentle path and step lighting helps family and guests navigate gravel, flagstone and grade changes without harsh glare.
Respects the night sky
We favor shielded, downward and low-glare fixtures so your yard glows without washing out the stars or shining into neighbors' windows.
Fits low-water design
Fixtures are placed to work with gravel, mulch and drip irrigation lines rather than requiring lawn or heavy ground cover.
One app for everything
Schedule landscape lights alongside your roofline, walls and patio so the whole property comes alive together at sunset.
Where Landscape Lighting Works Best

Specimen plants and trees
Uplighting a desert willow, a stand of yucca or a large agave turns a single plant into the focal point of the yard after dark.

Boulders and dry creek beds
A low grazing light across boulders and river rock highlights texture and gives depth to a gravel-heavy landscape.

Pathways and entries
Path lights along the walk and soft lighting at steps lead guests to the door and help you see where you're going on dark winter evenings.

Foothill and mountain lots
On sloped lots near the Sandias and in the East Mountains, layered lighting makes terraced plantings and native piñon and juniper visible from the house.
Made for High-Desert Sun, Wind & Monsoons
- Intense UV
- Spring wind
- Monsoon storms
- Freeze-thaw nights
Landscape fixtures live on the ground, which in Albuquerque means baking in the sun, sitting in blowing sand during spring wind season and taking the brunt of monsoon runoff. We specify fixtures and connections rated for outdoor and in-ground use and set them so water drains away rather than pooling around them.
Wiring is buried and protected, connections are sealed against moisture, and fixtures are positioned to stay clear of drip lines and emitter heads. That matters during freeze-thaw winters, when trapped water is what usually ruins outdoor connections.
Desert plants grow and change shape, so we aim fixtures with a little room to adjust as your yucca, agave or desert willow matures. Every installation is backed by our local warranty, and our Albuquerque crew can come back to re-aim or add fixtures as your landscape evolves.

Landscape Lighting FAQs
What's the best way to light a xeriscape yard?
Start with a few strong focal points rather than lighting everything. A desert willow, a large agave or a boulder cluster makes a great anchor. Then add soft path lighting where people walk and a little wash on the house. In a gravel-heavy yard, restraint looks better than a grid of fixtures. We'll suggest a layout during your site visit.
Will landscape lighting interfere with my drip irrigation?
We plan around it. Before installing, we note where your drip lines, emitters and valves run, then route low-voltage wiring and set fixtures to stay clear of them. That protects your irrigation and keeps water from pooling around connections. If you're redoing irrigation soon, let us know so we can coordinate the timing.
Can landscape lighting be dark-sky friendly?
Yes. We favor shielded fixtures, downward aiming where it makes sense, and warm color temperatures at modest brightness. You can also schedule lights to dim or shut off late at night from the app. The goal is a yard that glows softly while still letting you see the stars over the Sandias.
Can my landscape lights change color for holidays?
Depending on the fixtures you choose, yes. Many homeowners keep the landscape in warm white year-round and let the roofline and walls carry the holiday colors, which tends to look the most polished. If you want the yard in on the fun too, we can include color-capable fixtures and tie them into the same app.
How is landscape lighting priced?
Cost depends on the number and type of fixtures, the size of the yard, how far wiring needs to run, soil and gravel conditions, whether it ties into an existing system, and power access. We'll walk the yard with you, recommend a layout, and give you a written quote. You can also start with the front yard and add to it later.
